FFV with A TWIST

The First Friday Youth Vigil was held at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish, last November 5, 2010. There were 300 delegates from different parishes all over Bataan.

Since it was a big event for us, PYM Orani, we need to plan and to prepare very well. During the preparation, we decided to make this overnight vigil different from the past vigils, so we decided to include four things on the event. First, after knowing that aside from preparing the venue and the place, we will also be responsible for the rosary, we opted to have a plan by putting a TWIST on it. We called it Rosary with a Twist. It was the re-enactment of the Sorrowful Mystery. Second, to have an exhibit that will feature the relics and the life of the saints. Third, we came up with an idea of having signs that would help to make things easier for us. And lastly, we decided to choose animation songs that seemed to be unpopular to others.

We only had one week preparation for this event. We felt very excited and at the same time nervous. Since this was a diocesan event, we asked the help of the CYM of Orani National High School and the CYMEX of Bataan Peninsula State University in preparing the Rosary with a Twist. It was a great time for us to encourage the youth from other schools to bond with us, and eventually encourage them to join the PYM.

We rehearsed from morning until night. Everything needed to be perfect! The props, the costumes, the cast for the Sorrowful Mystery.. everything! But at the same time, we were also being reminded by our heads, that the main purpose for all of these was to inspire, encourage and to make others happy, like us.

And at last, the day came that we were all waiting for… the FFV in our parish. The delegates started to come, and the rain started to pour. We were worried, so once again we prayed very hard for the rain to stop. And oh! God is really good! He answered our prayers. The vigil started with the animation dance, followed by the rosary, Holy Eucharist, Holy Hour, talks, the Rosary with a Twist, snacks, and ended with Sunday Holy Eucharist.

I could see the happiness in every delegates faces. Therefore, I can say that our FFV was a success! I know that we attained our objectives, to give happiness, to inspire and to encourage others to hopefully attend the next FFV.

Despite all the hindrances, nothing is impossible. With good intentions, unity with your members and God on your side, everything will go well. God is truly our firm foundation.

And as we always say… “Tara tena, kilos kabataan! Dahil ang Diyos ng bagong sayaw ang ating liwanag at gabay!”
