CBCP ECMI pastoral statement for OFW about Zika

We are once again being confronted by the threat of the spread of a virus, the Zika virus. While first emerging in Brazil and Latin America, it has spread to other parts of the world and in Asia, significant numbers are reported in Singapore and Malaysia, and now in our country there are confirmed six cases.

It is unfortunate that our migrants and itinerant people have become most vulnerable to fast spreading viruses, as we recall SARS.

We in the migrant ministry wish to remind our OFWs, migrants, itinerants to be particularly mindful of this disease. Especially at risk are pregnant women. We urge them to take all the necessary precautions as directed by Health authorities. And once exhibiting symptoms they should seek treatment right away.

We join the government in the campaign to make our OFWs and migrants know more about this ZIKA virus.
